INsights:Your Buyer is Changing, Are You? by Bill Simmel

why the sales process has changed. . . have you? Having sold for more years than I would care to mention and having watched the transition of the B2B sales process, I can now admit golf, cigars, and the 2 martini lunch are dead! B2B Buyers are increasingly using resources other than a salesperson to get their information about your products. First, consider how you and your company gather materials on competitors. I bet you first look at their website to garner facts and useful tools to counteract their messaging throughout your channel.  Consider these stats: 91% of the Buyers’ Journey is now done digitally (Source: SiriusDecisions) 97% of B2B Buyers say online content has a major to moderate effect on their purchasing decisions (Source: CMO Council) 84% of CEOs/VPs use social media to make purchasing decisions (Source: IDC) The new online and fully connected buyer means [...]

INsight: The World Runs SLOW on “Dunkin Donuts” by Bill Simmel

file this one under, “i’m really not making this up. . .” I went into Dunkin’ Donuts the other day and ordered a # 6 — an egg and cheese sandwich with a large coffee for a special combo price of $3.99. But I didn’t want that much coffee (I knew I’d drink whatever was in the cup and this was, after all, my 5th cup of the morning, (I know too much coffee but let me proceed), so I nicely asked the young man to just give me a small coffee instead of the large cup. He said ok, but when he rang it up, it came to $5.85!! Now, I’m no mathematician, but even in New Jersey, that sounds like a lot of sales tax on a $3.99 order. Turns out the small coffee wasn’t part of the combo package so the computer rang [...]

INsights: Brand, Branding, Elvis, and Walt by Bill Simmel

RIP: Veni,Vidi, Vici. . . if only for a short time! Entrepreneurs, business managers, and CEO’s eventually retire, are fired, are “bought out (fired with money),”  go broke, or simply die.  On the other business side, a strong brand can live on in the hearts and minds of consumers, consider Coca Cola, Levis, Wheaties, Hershey, and Budweiser. Yet, many and I mean MANY brands die namely because they become outdated, lose their luster , or are redefined by those CEO’s (before they are fired). What does this have to do with Elvis and Walt? Don’t worry I will get there. […]

INsight: Lessons from a 10 Year Old, My White Lieby Bill Simmel

a teaching moment for me, from a 10 year old. . . Yesterday, I was talking with my 10-year old granddaughter. We were discussing her third grade class and her teacher. She mentioned the teacher always gives them Lessons, and always talks about Following the Rules. She asked”Poppi (affectionate term for me, blushing, you do realize it would not be so sweet to have her call me Bill, so Poppi it is) “What is the difference between Rules and Lessons?” […]

INsights: From The Wizard of Westwood by Bill Simmel

“It’s not so important who starts the game but who finishes it.” Coach John Wooden, a.k.a. the “Wizard of Westwood,” is best known for his 27-year legacy at UCLA, where he led the Bruins to 10 NCAA national championships, and for coaching basketball legends such as Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Many consider Wooden the best basketball coach in the history of the sport. But his words and practices about what it takes to win don’t just apply to the basketball court; they apply to all areas of life – especially entrepreneurship. Even though Coach Wooden was known for his simple and old school approach to practice and playing, the results speak for themselves. While, the man leaves us with a basketball legacy his philosophies can be taken from the court to the boardroom. […]
